PURPOSE:To estimate the liquefying strength of the ground at earthquake by a method in which an average effective main stress is obtained, and the relation of the ratio between a tip penetrating resistance and an average effective main stress to the liquefying strength is obtained. CONSTITUTION:A cone 3 is penetrated by a rod 2 connected to a penetrator, and the tip penetrating resistance, side frictional resistance, and void water pressure during the penetration are measured on the outside through a cable in the rod 2. An average effective main stress is obtained by deducting an excess void water pressure from an average main stress obtained from the effective placing load pressure. From a relation between the ratio of the tip penetrating resistance to the average main stress and the liquefying strength, the liquefying strength of the ground during earthquake is estimated. The liquefying strength of the ground can thus be estimated with good accuracy to permit simple and active operations rich in mobility to be performed.
