PURPOSE:To obtain a notched part having good straightness by traveling a cutting device in the longitudinal direction of a work positioned on a turning roll and controlling a cutting torch so as to profile the scribing line by a biaxial profiling mechanism. CONSTITUTION:A workpiece consisting of a small-diameter steel pipe 2a attached to a base pipe 1 is imposed on a turning roll 9 and a scribing line 23 is positioned upward. The pipe 2a is slit by a cutter 10 mounted on a traveling carriage 30 on rails 25 provided in the longitudinal direction Y. An X-axis and Z-axis profiling mechanism is provided to the cutter 10 and the distance in the Z-axis direction of the cutting torch is maintained constant by a touch roll provided with a touch roll sensor. On the other hand, the line 23 detected by a solid-state element camera is subjected to image processing by a control device by which the cutting torch is automatically controlled to profile the line in the X-axis direction. The automatic slitting of the tubular joint for a steel pipe type sheet pile is thus executed without spoiling the straightness of the notched part.
