LECTIN-LIKE SUBSTANCE DERIVED FROM ANTHERAEA PERNYI, SEPARATION AND PURIFICATION METHOD AND USE THEREOF

NEW MATERIAL:A substance, obtained from as chrysalis of Antheraea pernyi, having 380,000 molecular weight measured by a gel filtration method and divided single subunits having 38,000 molecular weight measured by sodium dodeccyl sulfate (SDS) gel electrophoresis and exhibiting specific bonding properties to rabbit erythrocytes, galactose, lactose, N-actylgalactoamine and alpha- methylglucosides. USE:A reagent useful for elucidating distribution and role of in vivo saccharide- containing components and judgement of blood, diagnostic agent for cancer, etc. PREPARATION:A homogenate or humor of a chrysalis of Antheraea pernyi is adsorbed on a Sepharose based affinity chromatographic solid support treated with an acid and separation and fractionation are carried out to give a fraction exhibiting hematocytic agglutination activity, which is then purified.
