PURPOSE:To separate antibiotic K582M-A from antibiotic K582M-B efficiently, by adding an arylaldehyde to a mixture of peptide antibiotics K582M-A and K582-B, utilizing the solubility of the prepared Schiff bases of the both antibiotics. CONSTITUTION:Peptide antibiotics K582M-A and K582M-B obtained from the culture of a K582M producing bacterium belonging to the genus Metarhizium are separated from their mixture by the following method. Namely, water is added to a mixture of both the antibiotics existing as a free base or a salt of mineral acid respectively to give a solution, and a (un)substituted arylaldehyde (benzaldehyde) in an amount twice to four times the molar quantity of the solution is added to the solution. An aqueous solution of an alkali, e.g., NaOH, etc. is added to the prepared solution, which is stirred at room temperature to 50 deg.C with its pH kept at especially 8.0-9.5, to precipitate Schiff bases. The collected precipitate is suspended in water, and the suspension is adjusted to pH at 3.0-4.0 to give a uniform solution, from which K582M-A is recovered. While, a supernatant liquid is adjusted to pH at 3.0- 4.0 and concentrated to recover K582M-B.
