ELECTROMAGNETIC STIRRING METHOD OF MOLTEN STEEL IN CASTING MOLD IN CONTINUOUS CASTING

PURPOSE:To stir effectively the molten steel in a casting mold and to improve the quality of an ingot while preventing the reentry of foam, etc. in the molten steel by accelerating the upward perpendicular flow of the molten steel with a lower electromagnetic stirrer and limiting the flow thereof with an upper electromagnetic stirrer. CONSTITUTION:An electromagnetic stirrer which applies upward thrust along the side wall of a casting mold 1 for continuous casting on the molten steel 2 in said mold in order to stir the same with the vertical flow in the rimming flow direction is constituted of plural linear motor types 3, 8 disposed in the positions differing in the height direction. The above-mentioned perpendicular flow is accelerated by the lower stirrer 3 and the flow thereof is limited by the upper stirrer 8 for deceleration to keep the max. flow rate v'max. of the flow low in the flow direction 5 of the steel 2, to make the flow rate over the entire part uniform and to decelerate the flow rate vD on the molten metal surface to a max. limit. The floating of foam, inclusions, etc. is thus accelerated, the reentry thereof is prevented, and slag inclusion, surface cavity defects, inclusions, etc. are prevented.
