The goniometer includes a base (10) with three feet supporting it (12,14,16). The feet stand at the corners of an equilateral triangle, supporting the base on a plane surface. One of the feet (16) is the probe of a micrometer (26) which allows its extension to be determined accurately. A spirit level (27) is attached to the base to indicate when adjustment of the micrometer has brought the base level. The spirit level is aligned along a perpendicular bisector o+ the line joining the centres of the two not adjustable feet.
