When metal melts are treated by the addn. of chemically active substances or alloying elements, the metal melt is kept in motion in a suitable vessel of cylindrical shape by electromagnetic forces. The melt fills at least half of the vessel and is raised by a rotational movement around the horizontal axis to the apex and drops back on the surface of the melt near the axis. Mechanism forces can be used to assist the inductive mixing action.
