An experimental work has been conducted in a semi-circular slice with a vertical section to study the heat transfer at the boundaries of an internally heated molten salt pool with a boundary crust. Effect of the variation of, the heat input, the salt mixture composition, and the boundary cooling conditions were studied for internal Rayleigh numbers varying from 10~(12) to 10~(14). A visuallisation of the pool melting is presented. This visuallisation and the temperature profile inside the crust show similar crust thickness for both eutectic and non-eutectic molten salt experiments. The local downward heat flux shows a similar distribution along the vessel wall for both eutectic and non-eutectic cases. The average downward and upward Nusselt numbers are presented and compared to previous work.
