ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA holding device for gripping and retainingcontainers, including can bodies or cans which have oneopen end, during transport on conveyers, includes a planarcarrier which can be connected at the conveyer chain orforms part thereof. A plurality of clamp elements issecured at the carrier. The clamp elements are made ofresilient material, and they are fastened for clamping orsnap-like retention of the container bodies atdiametrically opposite locations respectively in pairs atthe carrier. The clamp elements of each pair haverespectively crossing adjacent sections, and the innerclamp is adapted to operatively contact the peripheraledge of the respective retainer container. The outerclamp is adapted to operatively engage the outer wallsurface of the container rim which is directed towards thecarrier.
