ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA method and apparatus is disclosed for dressingof generally flat substrate such as leather fromwhose one surface protrude fibers. A first aqueousdispersion is applied on a structural support member havinganti-adhesive properties. The aqueous dispersion isthat of a synthetic plastics material. The aqueousdispersion is applied in an amount such that a solidifiedlayer having a thickness of 0.07 to 0.22 mm is formed.Subsequently, a second aqueous dispersion is applied ofsynthetic plastics material in approximately the sameamount onto the rough surface of the substrate or ontothe solidified first dispersion layer. The substrateis then placed with its rough surface into the alreadysolidified first dispersion of the synthetic plasticsmaterial, while the second dispersion is still in itswet stage. Eventually, the dressing, the substrate andthe supporting member are compressed together and subjectedto a vacuum treatment.
