ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREDescribed herein is a process for preparing9-carbamoyl-9-(3-amino-propyl)fluorenes of the formula (I)wherein:R and R1 independently are hydrogen, C1-C4alkyl, fluoro or chloro; andR2 and R3 independently are hydrogen or C1-C6alkyl;which comprises catalytically hydrogenating acompound of the formulawherein R and R1 are as defined hereinabove, andR4 and R5 independently are hydrogen or C1-C6 alkyl,in the presence of an acid medium stronger thanglacial acetic acid.
