Copolymers with a styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer as a main chain and side chains of polymers bound with benzyl bridges

Copolymers having mean molecular weights (weight average w) of from 10,000 to 2 million and containing copolymerised structural units of the formulae I, II and III in the mol% ranges given below, based on the copolymer, I from 40 to 90 mol% of the unit IMAGE II from 10 to 60 mol% of the unit IMAGE and III from 0.01 to 10 mol% of the unit IMAGE where R1 to R6 are hydrogen or C1-C8-alkyl radicals; n is 1, 2 or 3, and the radical Z is a polymer having a mean molecular weight (weight average w) of from 2,000 to 1 million prepared by anionic polymerisation, preferably using lithium compounds. The copolymers are used for the preparation of mixtures with other polymers or for the production of mouldings.
