A circuit to limit surges in a dc-illuminated lamp, comprising a rectifier circuit (4) having smoothing means (6), the output terminal being connected with a lamp (7); an inductor (2) connected with the input terminal of the rectifier circuit; surge-limiting means (8) connected in series with the lamp; and a switching means (9,10) having the main current path connected in parallel with the surge-limiting means, said switching means becoming conductive when the filament of the lamp is warmed up.
