The housing (1) surrounding the core (2) is assembled from an inner jacket (6) and an, e.g. spot-welded, outer jacket (5) with uniformly spaced upstanding fins (3) which extend parallel to the length of the housing. The fins, formed by folding of the sheet metal of the outer jacket, may be either solid or hollow with internal spaces communicating with the core (2) through slots in the inner jacket (6). The strength of the latter is greater than that of the outer jacket and is not affected by the fins so that end bearing shields (7) can be fixed to the inner jacket without special reinforcement. USE/ADVANTAGE - Explosion-proof motors. Mechanical strength of housing is enhanced and correspondingly greater cooling power can be achieved.
