At the junction between the embedded part of a mine anchorage, this part being encased in mortar, and the projecting part, both parts being made of stranded steel cables ia a cylindrical metal sleeve (6) filled with an ignitable substance (9) such as thermite powder. This is used to separate the anchorage and projecting parts for dismantling. Embedded in the sleeve is sealing mass (7) of plastics resin, through which passes an ignition line (12). The sealing mass has insulating properties, having thick ends (7A) and a thin central zone with a melting sleeve (3A) holding the powder. At the junction between a cable (11) attached to the igniter (10) and the ignition cable is a steel tube (13) containing a sealing mass (14). USE/ADVANTAGE - Mine anchor with thermite severing attachment. The thermite powder is fully protected from damp over a long period.
