Thermite welded copper cable on steel rail - in which molten copper encloses cable and passes through rail hole forming rivet

Cu conductors and bars are welded to steel rails by fusion welding using thermite cpd. The cable is formly and reliably connected to steel rail even if the welding position is not sufficient prepd. The rail has hole in the region where the cable is to be joined. The cable end adjacent the hole is enclosed with a mould connected by channel to the chamber holding the welding cpd. After ignition molten Cu flows through channel around the cable end for joining it to the rail by flowing through the hole and forming a rivet head on the other side of the hole. The molten Cu forms rivet which can be subsequently detached.
