The system comprises an image sensor which is attached to the vehicle and whose image data are processed by an information-processing device. The said device determines from the image data (using background knowledge) a maximum acceptable speed value which is indicated in a display instrument together with the instantaneous speed. When the indicated maximum speed is exceeded, a warning signal is emitted.
