Motor vehicle with a lighting device which is intended to be noticed by other road users and is rigidly attached to the side of the vehicle facing the opposite carriageway. The dazzling effect for road users approaching on the opposite carriageway as a result of vehicle headlights mounted at the front is reduced and the capacity of these road users to detect obstacles located on the opposite carriageway is improved in that a lighting device is arranged on a motor vehicle on the side facing the opposite carriageway, which device produces a light cone which is oriented towards the side and the upper part of whose boundary surface extends below the lowest normally occurring eyelevel of the other road users whilst the lateral boundary face parts are oriented in such a way that the light source is not directly seen by oncoming road users and by road users travelling behind.
