Process and apparatus for introducing air and/or oxygen into activation tanks, lakes, ponds or rivers and in waste water purification with the aid of gas-introduction devices, air and/or oxygen being introduced into the water and the resulting air/water mixture then being conducted through the conveyor screw of the gas-introduction device. It is possible to provide an air inlet on the suction side of a submersible pump so that the air/water mixture drawn in by suction is deflected by the pump and a directed water/air stream is delivered.
