To quantitatively determined halogens, a solid-state electrolyte sensor is used which has the abovementioned properties. When integrated in a suitable measuring instrument, the sensor supplies a signal in the form of a current which is directly proportional to the concentration of the test gas. The basis of the measurement principle is the electrochemical reaction which is described above and which brings about an ion migration in the silver iodide layer.
