In the case of an air-cooled light-alloy metal cylinder for two-stroke engines which is provided with an induction port and an exhaust port, the temperature of the light-alloy cylinder is to be lowered as a whole in order to safeguard sufficiently against piston seizure despite the fitting clearance of the piston in the cylinder being correspondingly small. This is achieved by lining the exhaust port with a ceramic component, whereby the heat transmitted from the hot exhaust gases to the cylinder is reduced. In addition, the induction port and the transfer port can likewise be lined with a ceramic component so as to achieve, on the one hand, a higher volumetric efficiency and, on the other hand, an improved cooling of the combustion chamber by the fresh charge.
