Method and device for producing a positionable security marking on paper

A method for producing a positionable security marking on paper, characterised by the following steps: - production of an embossing forme having relief projections which correspond to a given pattern to be embossed; - arrangement of the embossing forme on an embossing-forme support (2); - placing a piece of paper on the embossing forme arranged in the manner described above and pressing the sheet of paper against the embossing forme with the aid of the action of an elastically resilient impression roller (1) in order to cause deformation of the sheet of paper into projections and depressions in compliance with the structure of the embossing forme against which the sheet of paper is being pressed; and - reduction of the height of the elevations in the paper sheet, produced as described above, by the mechanical action of a grinding device (3).
