New products which are soluble copolymers of dichlorosilanes of formula …IMAGE… with bis(chlorosilyl)methanes of formula ClRR'Si-CH2-SiRR'Cl, in which formulae the radicals R and R', which are identical or different, are chosen from H, alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, alkylaryl and arylalkyl radicals, optionally substituted; process for the preparation of the said products; and the use of the said products for obtaining silicon carbide.
