PURPOSE: To measure a rolling force acting on a roll during rolling and to control rolling by setting the roll at a measuring position and using at least two sensors which are arranged at mutually different angles every measuring position. CONSTITUTION: A strain gage or semiconductor strain gage which converts the elongation of material or the deflection of the roll into a resistant variation is used as a sensor. The gage is directly set in the inner wall of one central measuring hole 1 or many measuring holes 2. And the direction of a synthetic rolling force at the time of the roll rotating is obtained, the rolling force is decomposed into a horizontal component and vertical component, a taking-back tension and pulling-back tension between roll stands are decided and used as a measuring value or input value for control.
