PRODUCTION OF RUTIN OR QUERCETIN PHOSPHORIC ACID ESTER

PURPOSE:To obtain the title ester useful in the field of cosmetic, etc., as a water-soluble ultraviolet absorbent, in high yield, without forming a solid resin in the course of the reaction, by reacting rutin or quercetin with phosphorus oxychloride in water in the presence of a base. CONSTITUTION:The objective ester can be produced by reacting (A) rutin or quercetin with (B) phosphorus oxychloride in water in the presence of (C) a base. The amount of the component B is 1.5-7.5mol. per 1mol. of the component A. The component C is e.g. sodium hydroxide and the reaction is carried out at 0-10 deg.C for 30min-2hr.
