AGENT FOR CONTROLLING COPULATION OF RICE STEM BORER

PURPOSE:To provide the titled agent contaning a mixture of cis-11-hexadecenal, cis-13-octadecenal and cis-9-hexadecenal as an active component, exhibiting attracting activity to the male of rice stem borer, and useful as a nonpolluting agricultural chemical. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of cis-11-hexadecenal, cis-13-octadecenal and cis-9- hexadecenal is used as an active component of the agent. Preferable ratios of cis-11-HDAL:cis-13-ODAL:cis-9-HDAL are 10:(3.5-1.0):(2-0.1), especially 10:1:1. To prevent the rapid evaporation and oxidation of the active component, the agent is absorbed to a substrate such as rubber septum, polyethylene, etc. or encapsulated in microcapsules and scattered. For example, one of the active component, cis-9-HDAL, can be prepared from the extraction liquid obtained by immersing the ovipositor of virgin female rice stem borer in n-hexane.
