PURPOSE:To utilize a waiting time effectively and permit the handling and the like of an electrode without necessitating a crane and the like separately, by providing a station, effecting various works, between electric furnaces, when a plurality of sets of electric furnace are provided in 1 parallel and preheating, melting and refining are effected. CONSTITUTION:A pair of electric furnaces 1a, 1b are arranged with a predetermined interval. The electric furnace 1a or the same 1b, which is under preheating process, is mounted with a burner to heat materials, loaded into the furnace. A furnace lid 3, equipped with an electrode 2, is mounted on the electric furnace 1a or the same 1b, which has finished preheating, and the material in the furnace is molten or refined by arc. An operating station 11 is provided between the electric furnaces 1a, 1b to effect the change of gripping of the electrode, weighing, replacement, the temperature keeping of the furnace lid and the like by utilizing a waiting time, generated by a difference between the preheating and melting or refining period of the electric furnaces. A mechanism, rotating the electrode and the furnace lid, can be used between the electric furnaces, therefore, various works may be effected without necessitating a crane and the like.
