PURPOSE:To enhance the performance of sound recording and reproduction by arranging a head gap specially for sound recording and the head gap specially for reproduction at positions which can be alternately replaced for a rotary base with the 180 deg. rotation of the rotary base. CONSTITUTION:In an automatic reversing tape player, a capstan 2 is always counter-clockwisely driven by a motor, and another capstan 3 is always clockwisely driven. At the time of the tape running in a normal direction, a pinch roller 5 on a right side pushes a tape to the capstan 2 on the right side, and the tape is sent in a right direction shown in a figure by the rotation of the capstan 2. At the time of the tape running in a reverse direction, a pinch roller 6 on a left side pushes the tape to the capstan 3 on the left side, and it is sent in a left direction. In the respective sound recording action and reproducing action of the tape, the rotation of a rotary base 22 is switched by the angle 180 deg., and the facing direction of the head tape is altered.
