PURPOSE: To compensate the deviation between nip forming press robs so that it matches by forcing one of a couple of press rolls forming a pressure nip halfway to a pressing roll at a position corresponding to the side edge of a web with a force which is proportional to the positive moment of the other press roll. CONSTITUTION: The couple of circular press rolls 10 and 12 are mounted on parallel shafts and their intermediate parts form the pressure nip 15 for a sheet or web material. Further, an additional roll 20 which has a crown or slants and places a load on the press roll 12 is mounted in a shaft slanting to the two parallel rolls 10 and 12. To compensate mismatching of internal moment at the edge of the web between the press rolls 10 and 12, a compensating force is applied to both the end parts of the roll 12 by a spring load such as a leaf spring toward the press roll 20 by a quantity which is proportional to the internal moment of the press roll 10, and consequently the deviation curve of the press roll 12 is matched with the curve of the press roll 10.
