PURPOSE:To improve the formability and corrosion resistance of an Mn electroplated steel sheet by incorporating prescribed percentages of alumina sol and a metal oxide such as SiO2, TiO2 or ZrO2 into the Mn plating layer of the steel sheet. CONSTITUTION:This Mn-alumina composite electroplated steel sheet has an Mn plating layer contg. 0.01-3wt.% (expressed in terms of Al2O3) alumina sol and =6wt.% specified metal oxide as the surface layer. The alumina sol is dissolved in hydrochloric acid having =0.1N concn. The specified metal oxide is selected among SiO2, TiO2, ZrO2, Nb2O5 and Ta2O5.
