PURPOSE:To cultivate Japanese horseradish with excellent productivity by extending cultivation area, averaging temperature, preventing diseases and insect pests, etc., by using wooden covering roofs, stepped cultivation beds and groundwater containing dissolved oxygen, etc., as a culture water and mixing a porous granular substance with farmland soil. CONSTITUTION:SUGI (Japanese cedar) boards, etc., having low thermal conductivity are used and an air flow layer 14 is provided at a given interval. Wooden stepped cultivation beds 1 and 1' are installed under double or more plate roofs 13, etc., to extend the cultivation area. Groundwater is adopted as culture water for cultivation and water temperature in four seasons is equilibrated to grow Japanese horseradish even in the summer and winter. Diseases and insect pests are prevented by sterilizing ability of the ozone. Further, a porous granular substance or sawdust is mixed with natural farmland soil to enhance physical and biological properties and increase production of the high-quality Japanese horseradish.
