PRODUCTION OF STANDARD SAMPLE OF HIGH-CARBON IRON STEEL FOR CARBON ANALYSIS

PURPOSE:To prevent crystallization of graphite and to improve the reliability of an analysis by subjecting a molten steel contg. =1.5wt.% C and consisting of the balance Fe to rapid pulverization by gas atomization. CONSTITUTION:The molten steel contg. =1.5wt.% C and consisting of the balance Fe is subjected to the rapid pulverization by the gas atomization. Since the molten steel is pulverized at =10 deg.C/sec cooling rate by the gas atomization method, the powder is cooled before the crystallization of the graphite is effected; therefore, the crystallization of the graphite is not observed at all. The crystallization of the graphite is thereby prevented and the reliability of the analysis is improved.
