PURPOSE:To prolong the life of refractories and to stabilize the operation of a reduction furnace by specifying distances between a plurality of bottom tuyeres and distances between each of them and the side wall. CONSTITUTION:On the furnace bottom part of a smelting reduction furnace, bottom blowing tuyeres are composed of a tuyere 15a in the center of the furnace bottom and a plurality of tuyeres 15b arranged keeping an equal distance on a circumference centering the central axis. In this case, it is set that the radius of a circle exceeds 900mm and the distance between a bottom blowing tuyere 15b and the side wall surface 11 of its circumferential edge exceeds 900mm. Accordingly, the wear of the refractories decrease, the quantity of wear is equalized, the life of the refractories is prolonged and the workability is improved.
