PURPOSE:To enable control of thread tension by means of the tension control feedback system of a motor even during braking and to stabilize thread tension, by a method wherein, when a paste-coating device or the like is brought to an emergency stop, a friction brake force is used in combination with a brake force generated by the torque generated by a drive motor. CONSTITUTION:Because electromagnetic solenoid valves 17 and 18 are switched by a brake control circuit when breaking of a thread occurs, compressed air is supplied from air sources S1.S2 to brakes B1-B3 to operate the brakes. Simultaneously, a motor M2 generates a given negative torque by means of the control circuit of the motor M2 and braking is applied togetherwith a brake force generated by a brake B2, whereby a rotary roller 4 and dry cylinders 5-7 are brought to an emergency stop during an emergency stop period, resulting in a sharp change in tension of a warp Y. When the rotational speeds of delivery and winding beams 1 and 10, are controlled, in order to maintain this tension of the thread at a constant level, a specified brake force generated by the brakes B1 and B2, is combined with the positive or the negative torque of the motors M1 and M2 controlled through the working of a tension feedback system.
