PURPOSE: To treat the subject infection by giving a trimetrexate or its salt or a combination thereof with a folic acid biosynthesis inhibitor. CONSTITUTION: Trimetrexate: 5-methyl-6-[[(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl)amino] methyl[-2,4-quinazolinediamine or its salt (2-hydroxyethanesulfonate salt is preferred for oral administration, while D-glucuronate is for parenteral administration) is singly used or in combination thereof with a folic acid biosynthesis inhibitor, for example, a sulfone compound (for example, 4,4'- sulfonylbisbenzenesulfonamide) or p-aminosalicylic acid in a microbiologically effective amount (0.5-240mg/m2 of the body area of the patient).
