PURPOSE: To obtain sufficient picture density by exposing a microcapsule to high intensity light for a short time and repeating recovery from the exposure. CONSTITUTION: A picture electronics part 12 supplies suitable electric signals to three acoustooptical modulators 14, 16, 18, which independently control one of three lasers 20, 22, 24. A microcapsule 40 in each pixel on a scanning line of an image forming material 34 is exposed to beams from the three lasers 20, 22, 24. Then the exposed microcapsule is recovered from the exposure. The exposure and recovery are repeated to form a latent image on the scanning line. Each scanning line for the same picture data is swept by laser beams plural times. Consequently picture density corresponding to small total exposure energy or high sensitivity is obtained.
