PURPOSE:To obtain an Fe-Ni or an Fe-Cr-Ni type alloy in low energy and high productivity without using expensive electricity, by a method wherein SiO2 and CaO are respectively added to an Ni ore containing T.Fe, T.Ni, SiO2 and MgO respectively in a predetermined ratio to reduce the Ni ore in a molten state. CONSTITUTION:An Ni ore containing 9-16% T.Fe, 1% or more T.Ni, 30- 50% SiO2 and 15-30% MgO is prepared. In the next step, to 100pts. this powdery Ni ore, 10-35pts. SiO2 as flux for facilitating the melting of the ore and CaO in an amount of 10pts. or more but {80-2X(SiO2pts.)} or less corresponding to the compounding ratio of SiO2 are added to reduce the Ni ore in a molten state. This melt reduction is generated at about 1,300 deg.C and becomes active at 1,450 deg.C or more. As the result, an Fe-Ni type alloy or an Fe-Cr-Ni type alloy is obtained without forming the powdery Ni ore into a lump.
