PURPOSE:To produce the titled alloy consisting of Sm, Co, Cu, Fe and Ti and having high performance at low cost by magnetizing an alloy being the macrostructure of an ingot, that is, an alloy mainly comprising the Sm2Co17 crystal with a predetermined content of Sm. CONSTITUTION:An alloy having an Sm content of 21-28wt% and consisting of Sm, Co, Cu, Fe and Ti is cast. An ingot cut from the cast alloy is subjected to a solution treatment at an optimum temperature of 1,140-1,180 deg.C and is then magnetically hardened by treating it at 800 deg.C. The ingot thus hardened magnetically is pulverized, and the pulverulent is kneaded with an organic binder. Then, the kneaded mixture is press molded in a magnetic field, and the resin in the molted article is cured by heating so as to complete the magnet. Accordingly, the rare earth- cobalt permanent magnet alloy with a magnetic performance enhanced as compared to those of conventional magnets of the Sm2Co17 type can be obtained.
