PURPOSE:To obtain the title composition which can release deposited tarry matter easily and quickly without any chemical damage to a worker from the inside wall, etc. of a hot air oven, an exhaust duct or the like, containing a swellable substance of a specified water absorptivity as an effective component. CONSTITUTION:The title composition is obtained by mixing a swellable substance (A) which absorbs water in an amount 10-100 times its own weight, which is at least one member selected from among a product obtained by crosslinking a copolymer obtained from an unsaturated high-molecular compound and an olefin compound, a vinyl compound or a vinylidene compound with a polyfunctional compound, swellable inorganic substance such as sodium or lithium tetrasilicate mica and water-absorptive starch, cellulosic, acrylic and poval high-molecular compounds with, optionally, a swelling agent, a levelling agent, a cissing inhibitor, an antiseptic, a rust-preventing agent, etc. (B). A film of said composition is formed, by application and drying, on a coating on the inside wall etc. of a hot air oven or an exhaust duct used in a paint shop, a tinplate print shop, etc. and after tarry matter is formed on this film, an aqueous liquid is brought into contact with it to swell it to thereby release the deposited tarry matter from the inside wall etc.
