Method for continuous treatment of an aqueous solution containing certain ions to be removed. The aqueous solution containing the ions to be removed is first of all neutralised if it is acidic and then brought into contact with a metal salt (1) which is both very poorly soluble in water and which has a very high affinity for reacting with the ions to be removed to form another water-insoluble salt. This contact is brought about for a sufficient period of time to enable this other insoluble salt to form. This method is highly efficient and can be employed, for example, to remove chromium from aqueous effluents by employing barium carbonate as the salt which is very poorly soluble in water. IMAGE
