PURPOSE:To improve profitabilily by executing load follow up by a power decrease operation, power increase operation or power level operation by compensating the xenon concn. after power alteration by controlling the controlling rod and controlling the flow rate in the reactor core within prescribed range. CONSTITUTION:The reactor core flow rate id decreased to and the power is lowered down to the target low level power in the case of carrying out the power decrease operation in this operation method. Insertion of the control rod is executed only when the power does not lower down to the target level even if the reactor core flow rate attains the lower limit value permitted down to the low power level. The reactor core flow rate is then increased up to the flow rate 2e of the lower limit at the high power level in the case of carrying out the power increase operation. The operation returns to the high power operation point 14 of nearly the same power and flow rate state as the power and flow rate state before the power decrease when the power is increased by increasing the flow rate from the low power operation point 13. The xenon concn. decreases sharply after the high power level is reset in such a manner. This decrease is compensated by insertion of the control rod. The load follow up operation is thus executed in the state of the low reactor core flow rate and, therefore, the accumulation quantity of Pu increases and the economic efficiency improves.
