PURPOSE:To obtain the titled fiber having improved electricalconductivity, by vaporizing an aromatic 2 acid anhydride, an aromatic diimide compound, etc. in a gas atmosphere of argon, etc. under heating, subjecting it to gaseous-phase growth to give carbonaceous fiber, heat-treating the carbonaceous fiber, and doping it with a dopant. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic 2 acid anhydride (e.g., 3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylic acid dianhydride, etc.), an aromatic diimide compound, or a compound to produce the aromatic 2 acid anhydride or the aromatic diimide under heating is vaporized in an atmosphere of argon, nitrogen, helium, hydrogen, or their mixed gas or in vacuum under heating, and subjected to gaseous-phase growth, to give carbonaceous fiber. Then, the carbonaceous fiber or fiber obtained by graphitizing the carbonaceous fiber by heat treatment is doped with a dopant having acceptor or donor properties, to give the aimed fiber having improved electrical conductivity.
