1445768 Tri - 2 - norbornyltin compounds M & T INTERNATIONAL BV 14 Dec 1973 [18 Dec 1972] 58088/73 Heading C2J The invention comprises trinorbornyltin compounds of general formula wherein each RSP1/SP is -H or a C 1-8 alkyl radical, X is halogen or is a hydroxyl, carboxylate, -ORSP2/SP or -SRSP2/SP group where RSP2/SP is C 1-12 alkyl or C 6-12 aryl, and Y is -O- -S- or -SO 4 -, and also fungicidal and nitricidal compositions of these compounds together with a liquid or solid carrier. The compounds wherein X is Cl, Br or I are prepared by reacting an appropriate trinorbonylmonohydrocarbyltin with a stannic halide, usually in a solvent at 25-50‹ C., the hydrocarbyl radical of the tin reactant being C 1-6 alkyl, phenyl, allyl or vinyl. The halide product can be readily converted to other derivatives by standard reactions. In the examples, (1) tris-2-norbornyltin chloride is prepared by reacting 2-norbornylmagnesium bromide and C 4 H 9 SnCl 3 to give butyltri-2-norbornyltin which is then reacted with SnCl 4 and (2) bis-(tri-2-norbornyltin)oxide is prepared by reacting the chloride compound with methanolic NaOH in acetone.
