The invention relates to a device for metering sawn timber, more particularly untrimmed sawn timber, on a traverse conveyor, for example a log lift 2 for the sawn timber, in which the sawn timber is distributed into individual driver interspaces 19 on the traverse conveyor 2. The metering device 3,4,5 is arranged to meter sawn timber periodically in mutually distinct, essentially equal-sized timber sections 20,21 to the junction between the traverse conveyor 2 and the metering device 3,4,5 or to the sorting point 6 for the sawn timber. The metering device comprises two conveyors 3,4 disposed one after the other, between which there is disposed a sill 5, which is arranged to limit the transfer of the timber sections 21 to the sorting point 6 for the sawn timber. The conveyor located before the sill 5 in the direction of transport, the so-called metering conveyor 3, is arranged such that it is displaceable in the vertical direction between a lower position, in which the plane of the conveyor 3 lies below the upper edge of the sill 5, and an upper position, in which the plane of the conveyor 3 lies at least level with the upper edge of the sill 5, for metering of the sawn timber sections 21 over the sill 5 to the so-called sorting conveyor 4. The sorting conveyor 4 is arranged such that it can be pivoted between an upper and a lower position so as to improve the sorting of the sawn timber at the sorting point 6. IMAGE
