The invention pertains to a process and device for reducing a slurry yielded by the burning of pulp waste containing sodium carbonate with the use of carbon, in which a suspension (2) of the slurry and carbon is heated and simultaneously stirred to reduce the sodium carbonate to sodium oxide as well as, in some cases, sodium hydroxide.
