Rapid cooling of crustaceans and shellfish - by moving catch along floor of vibrating vat in counterflow to stream of cooled sea water

A process for rapid and hygienic cooling of a prod. consisting of crustaceans and shellfish using cooled water as a cooling medium, esp. when on board ship using filtered cooled sea water, comprises introducing the prod. into a vibrating vat, transporting the prod. over the bottom of the vat and thus through the water which is continuously replensi replenished and cooled such that the water flows generally in counterflow to the direction of movement of the prod. over the floor of the vat. The water leaves the vat via an outlet near the prod. inlet so that the water flows out past the prod. The water outlet is kept partially shut to maintain a desired level of water in the vat.
