The invention relates to an apparatus which has a thermostatic measuring burette, into which a sample of the substance can be introduced, with the object of carrying out measurements automatically, even under positive or negative pressure. This is achieved by the measuring burette 2.1 being closed in a gas tight manner at the top by a stationary, rigid closure 1.6 which is penetrated in a gas tight manner by a connecting cannula 1.5 as a filling opening 1.2 for the substance, together with a shut-off valve 1.1 connected downstream, the interior of the connecting cannula 1.5 being connected to a pressure sensor 1.4, by the measuring burettes 2.1 being sealed off in a gas tight manner at the bottom by a moveable, rigid closure 3.1 which can be moved in a controlled manner towards the stationary closure 1.6 in order to produce a specific internal pressure in the measuring burette 2.1, it being possible for the travel of the moveable closure 3.1 at a specific internal pressure to be evaluated as a measure for the vapour/liquid ratio of the substance sample at this internal pressure.
