ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA device is disclosed for loading refuse into, andcompacting it inside a container carried by a refusecollecting vehicle, wherein the device includes a link and ashovel extending through out the width of container andhinged together by a hinge axis, the link also having itsother end hinged at a hinge to the fixed structure of thevehicle in such a manner that the link is only enabled toswing about the axis of hinge; hydraulic means beingprovided for driving the link and shovel into motion, whichdriving means are such as to cause the free end of shovel todescribe during the effective loading step a curved paththat thoroughly follows the curvilinear shape of the bottomof a refuse receiving trough.
