This invention relates to a novel class of substituted dihydroimidazo [1,2-a] quinoxaline derivatives of the formula …CHEM… wherein… R1 is C1-C6 alkyl, benzyl, phenyl, a …CHEM… group, a ……(NH2-@-CH2)-… group or a ……(R5-@)-… group wherein R4 is C1-C6 alkyl, and R5 is C1-C8 alkyl, aminomethyl, pyridinyl, phenyl, halophenyl or a ……(R6-O-@-NHCH2)- group wherein R6 is C1-C6 alkyl;… R2 is phenyl or substituted phenyl having 1 or 2 substituents selected from the class consisting of halo or C1-C6 alkoxy;… R3 is hydrogen or halogen; and… X is -CH- or -N-… and to pharmaceutical compositions containing such compounds. The compounds and compositions are effective as anti-anaerobic agents.
