A pyrotechnic composition intended for the production of smoke opaque to infrared rays, characterised in that it comprises: - particles of chemical elements endowed with a high power of extinction in the infrared, between 1 and approximately 25 mu m in size, - a redox system reacting at a temperature of between approximately 500 and approximately 600 DEG C, consisting of at least one organic reducing agent and of at least one organic and/or inorganic oxidising agent. The invention also relates to a process for its manufacture and to a decoy comprising such a composition.
